The question has been asked, "What do people in Antelope Valley do for entertainment?" April 1st the Antelope Valley Lions Club answered the question by sponsoring a Cow Pasture Golf Tournament and barbecued spare rib lunch.
The day before the tournament Lion members prepared the course at Lion Bo's picturesque Cow Pasture Golf Club on Topaz Lane. A nine hole course was laid out by Lion John Daniels. The greens were trimmed to perfection and the fairways were groomed with excellence.
Saturday morning began with the Lions Club enjoying a brisk sunny outdoor breakfast and Business Meeting. Following the meeting, sign ups began with a total of forty-four golfers signing up.
Golfing started at 10:30am with a shotgun start. Eighteen holes of golf were planned, but the course proved somewhat tricky for the golfers. After 3 hours of golfing only nine holes were completed by all the golfers. At times it appeared to be an Easter egg hunt as the golfers were having problems finding their golf balls. The tules, cow patties, fence posts, creek, and sheep provided some difficulties; not mentioning a herd of horses stampeding through the golf course. Lion Bo's ATV cocktail service eased the frustration of stray bails and etc.
The smell of barbecued ribs started wafting over the course. After traipsing through the cow patties and the hard work of golfing, appetites were developing. The Golfers retreated to the canopies and enjoyed Lion Skip Brown's famous ribs.
After lunch, first, second, and third team prizes were presented and raffle prizes were drawn. Everyone said they had a blast and the club enjoyed a $700 profit for their community projects. It was definitely decided to make this an annual event.
